If the title of this article confuses you then your one of the many people that haven’t really experienced the Zelda lexicon. Aside from being a series of action RPG’s the franchise has a rich backstory with a deep history all its own. As the recent translations of the Hyrule Historia by Sarinilli are revealing. the latest of these discoveries is a complete translation of the Gerudo language.
Gerudo may not be a word many of you are familiar with but it’s the race the main villain of the series, Ganondorf, belongs too. the language has the same base 26 characters of English but represented with different script. The only numerals in the alphabet are 1 and 5 which isn’t very handy to use but to each his own.
the interesting part of all this is with this new translation it may be possible to translate old Gerudo script found in Ocarina of Time. That of could is based on the assumption that there actually was a working alphabet back then and they weren’t just writing out gibberish. Here’s hoping.
