Avengers Sequel Gets An Official Release Date

While so many movies have a sequel in the works, even before the original has yet to hit the screen much like this year’s The Hunger Games and last year’s Green Lantern it kind of surprised me that Marvel had taken their time to announce the sequel release date for their follow-up to the biggest movie of recent memory.

It may have been three months since the release of The Avengers, Marvel is giving fans another date to mark on their calendars. May 1st, 2015 is the release date for the yet “Untitled Marvel’s Avengers Sequel.” That is three years away and while some people are groaning that is a year less than the original wait.

Many people, like myself, were thinking that four years is such a long way off that I would never be able to see the film. Now that it has come and gone, it doesn’t seem that long especially since we know that Marvel has retained the services of Joss Whedon as writer and director for the sequel.

In many earlier reports, he had an idea for the sequel that would make it more personal, which is what brought up memories of Empire Strikes Back and X2. However, we will have another build up to the event with Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The thought of those movies make me so giddy that The Avengers sequel will be icing on the cake.
