Variety is reporting that Crystal Dynamics is working with GK Films to develop the film reboot of the Lara Croft character like the upcoming video game. The planned movie will be in sync with Crystal Dynamics new take on the Croft character. “They are working from this new take that we’ve given them,” Darrell Gallagher, head of Crystal Dynamics said about GK Films, “It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens”
“it was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise,” Gallagher added. “We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old Tomb Raider films.”
Who is writing the screen play for Lara’s big screen comeback you ask? Mark Fergus (Iron Man) and Hawk Ostby are putting the script together. When asked about the story producer Graham King said “”is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.”
The previous two Lara Croft films weren’t bad films, but they fit more with the sex symbol version of Croft from the past and not the new, more realistic, version Crystal Dynamics has put together It will be interesting to see what the new film will be like, but if it looks anything like the new game looks then it should do just fine.
