Some of you may remember when we covered E3 this year, we mentioned that Atari was bringing something back. Many have speculated that it would be their version of a classic edition like Nintendo has been all about lately. In a newsletter that was released on Monday, it seems that Atari is ready to reveal their Ataribox, somewhat.
According to the newsletter, it will sport four USB ports and HDMI output “suggest modern internal specs.” The one aspect that has people curious is when Atari states that “It also means that while we will be delivering classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content.”
Now, I think it is safe to say that they are not trying to drop a new gaming console to take on Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. This could mean that they will be dropping new games specifically made for that console but I doubt we will be getting Destiny on this thing.
The front face design envokes nostalgia for the classic Atari 2600 console. However, the wood design on the front is either glass or a finished wood.
“We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, features, pricing, timing etc.,” the Ataribox makers said in the newsletter. “There are a lot of milestones, challenges and decision points in front of us in the months ahead.” Atari promised regular updates on the console’s development.
