Last year, Activision announced that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare would come with a remastered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare if you purchased the legacy edition. At the time, Activision claimed that they had no intention of offering a standalone version of Modern Warfare, mostly in hopes of bolstering sales of the more expensive edition. As history has shown, it did not turn out the way they hoped and now it seems there will be a standalone version.
Charlie Intel received a tip on Monday that showed a shrink-wrapped version of Modern Warfare Remastered for the PlayStation 4 and a Target price tag of $39.99. According to their tipster, it seems the game has a release date of June 27th.
It would not be completely surprising that Activision would release a standalone version of the game since no one bought the Legacy Edition. The game, by Activision’s own admission “underperformed” and “just didn’t resonate” with fans.
However, it is a safe assumption that even if the game did sell well, Activision would have still released a standalone version just to anger their base. How many times have you purchased a game with all its DLC only to have a special “Game of the Year” edition to drop will all the DLC included for a reduced price? Gamers, Star Wars and Star Trek fans are always getting screwed by their content overlords.
