It has become more of the norm that after a year of being out on the market, a price drop is usually on its way. It is hard to believe that it has been a year since Sony released the PlayStation VR, but it was announced on Monday that a price drop will happen on September 1st.
The new bundle featuring the PlayStation VR headset and the PlayStation Camera will be released next month for $399 in the US and $499 in Canada. Some people may thing that is not a price drop, but many will need to remember that the original bundle was for the headset only and did not include the camera, which sold for an additional $59.99.
Sony’s other existing bundle, which includes the virtual reality headset, camera, a pair of PlayStation Move controllers and a copy of PlayStation VR Worlds, will also see a price reduction from $499 to $449 in the U.S. That bundle will cost CA$579 in Canada.
“This is a great time to jump into the PlayStation VR experience, with a huge lineup of over 100 games, including recent favorites like Arizona Sunshine, SUPERHOT VR, Tiny Trax, Fantastic Contraption and Dino Frontier.” Sony said on their blog post. “If you’re new to PS VR, don’t miss out on marquee titles like Farpoint, Batman: Arkham VR, Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Resident Evil 7 biohazard. The PS VR games portfolio keeps growing, so visit this page to keep up with all the new releases.”
“On the horizon, we’ve got a great lineup of games, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, Sparc, Bravo Team and The Inpatient. The system itself also continues to evolve, as we just announced that the latest PS4 system software update 5.00 will include some enhancements for PS VR like 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound in Cinematic Mode.”
