As surprised, like many of you, with the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as like many of you have been anxiously waiting for the release date on Blu-ray or Digital HD. Rumors have been swirling for a while but on Wednesday, Disney and Lucasfilm finally announced the release date for the film. Like all the other Disney-owned films, you will have an Digital HD release first and then in two-weeks a physical copy will be sold in stores.
The Digital HD version of the movie will be released on March 23rd, while the Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand release is set for April 4th. Like many of you readers, you will be annoyed to hear that major retailers will have various artwork on their releases, but unlike Star Trek and Paramount – all the bonus content will be the same across all retailers.
The Digital Bits is reporting that the Target version of the release will match the Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D Collector’s Edition packaging. Best Buy will offer the steelbook, while Walmart will offer its own exclusive packaging.
These are all the extras that will be include in all variations of the Blu-ray release. 11 behind-the-scenes featurettes (A Rogue Idea, Jyn: The Rebel, Cassian: The Spy, K-2SO: The Droid, Baze & Chirrut: Guardians of the Whills, Bodhi & Saw: The Pilot & The Revolutionary, The Empire, Visions of Hope: The Look of Rogue One, The Princess & The Governor, Epilogue: The Story Continues, and Rogue Connections).
The site does note that given the lack of deleted scenes – to which we know there was a completely different third act – as well as no audio commentary, there could be a significant Collector’s Edition BD coming later in the year. This will make sense since Star Wars: The Last Jedi is coming out close to the holiday season. Now, that is not confirmed so make your decision wisely.
