As February begins in a little more than a week, it is important to know what Microsoft will be offering for free in their line-up for Games with Gold. It seems that Microsoft believes if you are an Xbox One user, you are definitely into being an assassin. However, if you are still using an Xbox 360, you are all about racing. To be honest, that doesn’t sound like a bad plan.
The lineup for February 2018 is led by Shadow Warrior, Flying Wild Hog’s 2013 reboot of the late-’90s first-person shooter. It will be free all month long on Xbox One. The other Xbox One title for the month is Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India, the side-scrolling spinoff starring Arbaaz Mir that was released in January 2016. It will be available free from Feb. 16 to March 15.
February’s two free Xbox 360 games are two very different takes on vehicular mayhem. First up is Split/Second, Black Rock Studio’s beloved stunt racing game set in a reality TV show. It will go free for the first half of the month. The 2010 remake of Crazy Taxi, a Sega Dreamcast classic, will be free from Feb. 16-28. As always, both of the Xbox 360 titles will be playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.
Shadow Warrior looks like a definite download for the month, while Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India may be one too. While my opinion of the franchise has dropped since Assassin’s Creed: Unity, the side-scrolling aspect is definitely intriguing to me. Split/Second looks like a fun game to play on your Xbox One, due to backwards compatibility. Crazy Taxi is definitely a no-brainer.
