When the character of Black Panther was announced as being in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, news went around the internet like wild fire. At a time when multi-ethnic and gender equality was being sought in our comic book movie, it seems that the time was right for our first African superhero. On Wednesday, tickets went on sale for Black Panther and it broke a record.
Fandango is reporting that the first 24-hours, pre-sale tickets showed that this is the largest the site has seen for a Marvel movie. The previous record was held by, you guessed it Captain America: Civil War. The Chadwick Boseman starred is the second highest-anticipated film of 2018, just behind his third outing as Black Panther in Avengers: Infinity War.
There has been a lot of buzz for this film since the trailer was released last year. In the first 24 hours, the trailer had received 89 million views. It was the ninth most tweeted about film in 2017.
The film is expected to break some records, but reception will be another story. It could see the Wonder Woman experience that garnered much love in the summer or Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is still battling it out with fans. Seen how he was treated in Civil War and Ryan Coogler has done some excellent work in the past, this particular fan is not so worried.
