Something that I have always been fascinated with is the exploration of the Universe. Since I was a very small boy I dreamed of jumping around on a distant planet and ended up pouring over a lot of books on the subject of space exploration. With that being said it shouldn’t be hard to imagine that the landing of the Curiosity rover is a moment that I will remember until the day I decide to croak.
One game that lets you live a bit of the life of a space explorer is Moonbase Alpha. The free NASA-released, Virtual Heroes developed game is for the real purist at heart and isn’t your typical video game set in a space setting. You’ll take on the role of an astronaut on a moonbase. You’ll be tasked with fixing various systems on this base and many are timed. If you fail to do this in time you, well, fail. There aren’t any aliens trying to rip your head off of anything like that but for those interested the game has its fair share of excitement.
The latest update adds a few interesting things to the gameplay that should spice things up a bit. First off is the team-based multiplayer mode called “Moonbase Madness.” In this mode two teams of three will compete to see who can fix the systems of their moonbases faster and better then the other.
The game developers said this about the new mode: “Returning from a research expedition, you witness a meteorite impact that cripples the life support capability of the settlement. Wit precious minutes ticking away, you and your team must repair and replace equipment in order to restore the oxygen production to the settlement.”
The update also features a new sandbox level which will give you plenty more flexibility to do whatever you want. If you’ve ever been interested in space exploration or colonization be sure to give this game a look.
