Discord Blocks NSFW Servers for iOS

Apple has gone out of its way to make sure their content is available for all ages. They have gone so far as to make sure companies monitor their adult content just to be available on the App Store. Which is one of the reasons people have been moving to Android. Discord seems to be the next company that will capitulate to Apple.  Discord blocks NSFW servers for iOS.

Discord is placing restrictions on adult content that labels all 18+ servers to prevent them from being available. There is another caveat. Any server that refuses to label their server, going forward, will be defaulted as NSFW. Entire servers can now be marked as NSFW if their community “is organized around NSFW themes or if the majority of the server’s content is 18+.”

Discord blocks NSFW servers for iOS is lame.

It has been known for a long time that Apple is very puritanical when it comes to sex and violence. Apple, of course, claims they want to make sure no one under 18 can access such content. Or, they can say they have taken a lot of measure.

Given that Apple is half of the mobile market share, every app has to comply. Otherwise, they will be shut out of the competition. Very seldom has any app seen true success without being on both ecosystems. Even Apple App Store exclusives need to survive by being a paid app.

The response is extreme. Some are saying that this may force them to consider moving to Android. No it won’t. If many of Apple’s restrictions haven’t forced them to move by now, they won’t move. However, it could pose a problem for people monitoring the apps. Discord blocks NSFW servers shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

Also, if you are using NSFW function within apps, you were already using Android to begin with.
