Fubo Loses Warner Bros Discovery Networks

With Warner Bros. Discovery attempt to milk everyone for more cash, Fubo customers are the latest group to be hit by their greed. Fubo loses Warner Bros Discovery networks as of yesterday at 5pm. The streaming service claims that the studio was seeking “above-market rates” and refused to license Turner Sports networks separately.

In a statement Tuesday, Fubo said it attempted to renew its Discovery content agreement with WBD for networks including Discovery, HGTV, Food Network and TLC. The streamer also was seeking to license Warner Bros. Discovery’s Turner Sports networks, TNT, TBS and truTV. But Fubo said WBD would not negotiate in “good faith” and that the networks were pulled from Fubo as of April 30 at 5 p.m. ET.

“Fubo offered Warner Brothers Discovery market rates for its content and, despite Fubo’s efforts to negotiate in good faith, Warner Brothers Discovery did not provide any counteroffer, and insisted on continuing to offer us above-market rates for its content,” the streamer said in a statement. “Fubo views Warner Brothers Discovery’s refusal to engage in good faith negotiations as another example of its abuse of massive market power that ultimately limits consumer choice.”

Fubo loses Warner Bros Discovery networks over greed

During instances like these, it is important to know that studios are the culprits, not the providers. Given the recent news about WBD head, David Zsalav, increased his salary by 30 percent in 2023 when the studios were in a strike for fair wages by actors and writers.

In 2020, the streamer dropped other WarnerMedia networks like TNT, TBS, CNN, CNN International, CNN en Español, HLN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Turner Classic Movies, truTV and Boomerang. This ploy by studios to pull content is because they know customers are studios. They call the provider, in this case Fubo, to restore the networks because they miss their content. Yet complain about the price increases they’ll pay to get channels restored.
