HBO Max Is WarnerMedia’s New Streaming Service

It has been reported for some time that WarnerMedia – the company that came out of the Time Warner and AT&T sale – was attempting to launch their own streaming service. Until Tuesday, no one even knew what the name would be. WarnerMedia officially announced the service would be branded “HBO Max”. Since it was reported some time back that HBO would be included, it makes sense that they would place that service front and center.

“HBO Max brings together HBO, a Robust Slate of New Originals, and Programming from Warner Bros., New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, truTV, The CW, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth, Looney Tunes and More to offer Something for Everyone in the Home,” the company said in their press release. “Anchored with and inspired by the legacy of HBO’s excellence and award-winning storytelling, the new service will be “Maximized” with an extensive collection of exclusive original programming (Max Originals) and the best-of-the-best from WarnerMedia’s enormous portfolio of beloved brands and libraries.”

HBO Max is expected to launch in spring of 2020. Taking some of their high-profiled shows like The Office and Friends and move them behind a paywall could be considered a reason to subscribe to the service. However, like many people on Netflix, they will simply move onto something else and forget about it.

“HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is ‘Friends,’” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer.

That isn’t to say that HBO Max would not have a slew of original content coming from Robert Downey Jr. Kaley Cuoco, Jordan Peele, Joss Whedon. Along with shows like Dune: The Sisterhood, animated prequel series Gremlins, Lovecraft Country, Perry Mason, and The Plot Against America. Is anyone interested in signing up for this service?
