If you are an avid SmodCast listener, like I am, you will know that Kevin Smith has been talking about doing a Clerks III movie for some time. From all indications, he had a lot of ideas and there may had been a script written, but it seems that wasn’t the case.
Smith had spent a lot of time telling people that he was considering doing it as a Broadway play due to the issues with the Weinstein Company and their unhappy relationship since Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. However, it seems nostalgia has gotten the better of him.
On his Facebook page, he revealed that he has begun writing the script for his long-awaited Clerks 3 script. He posted this comment and picture below:
“THE BEGINNING OF THE END
20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS.
20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III.
It’s been like hanging out with old friends.
And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion…
CLERKS III will be the best film I’ll ever make.”
As a fan of the original two films, I am kind of excited about this outing. I was very worrisome about the second film, but he gave it enough maturity to see that this would be the logical step for the characters and now I am kind of curious to see where they ended up now. Being around the same age as Smith, I can see why you would like to see where those characters ended up. What about you?
