If humanity is good at anything, it’s waging war. Since the dawn of man, we’ve waged war for ideological, philosophical, economic, and religious reasons. None of it makes sense. Killing one another for whatever reason never made sense to me. Being raised as a Christian, you were taught about being charitable. Giving to people that need your help. Christians are not what they used to be. The never read the Bible.

Don’t get me wrong, there are many that do these things. And to them I profess they are doing the Lord’s work. However, there are a lot of “religious people” that claim to know the Bible, yet don’t practice any of its teachings.

Since conservatives like to proclaim they are the party of Christians, it makes me wonder if they ever cracked the book open. During Donald Trump’s presidency, we heard a lot of those migrant caravans that only seemed to approach close to election time. That isn’t to say Democrats do better with it, not by a long shot. Yet, they don’t use Bible verses to say why they need to keep all immigrants on the other side of the border.

During the rise in immigration to the United States, many Christian conservatives would recite Romans 13:1: “Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow.”

A couple of things, one – they are talking about God’s law. Not man’s law. So, ergo, if immigrants can’t come over to our man-made immigration policy, then they are violating God’s law.

Christians need to read the Bible.

However, there are over a dozen of Bible verses that tell his followers just how to treat immigrants. Hell, just look at Genesis 23:4 – ‘I am a stranger and an alien residing among you; give me property among you for a burying place, so that I may bury my dead out of my sight.’

Deuteronomy 27:19 – ‘Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’

I’ll end the recitation with this, Hebrews 13:1-3 – ‘Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.’

I bring this up because of the outpouring of love I am seeing in many European countries for the Ukrainians fleeing their homes. In an unprovoked war. People from hundreds of miles away are coming to their aide. Offering money, physical items, or lodging. Yet, there are still people in this religious contingent that are saying we owe those people nothing. Some as vulgar as saying they have every right to be subjugated. Putin has every right to take back his land. People like Trump, Steve Bannon, and Alex Jones.

Last week, I mentioned that conservatives of a by-gone era would be turning over in their grave. The religious have fallen victim to their false idol. Listening to this message of hate for anyone that doesn’t believe in their twisted interpretation of the Bible. A book they wish to be taught in school yet haven’t actually learned from it.

Reading and memorizing isn’t learning.

As my brother used to say, once he broke the spell of Trumpism, people can read the Bible and memorize every word of it. But they never took in those words. Conservatives call Christians that practice charity and love of people socialist. Confused by the world. They don’t truly understand God’s word.

Yet, you have a growing section of the population saying that if their church is refusing to proclaim war on the left and that Trump is our only hope – leave that church for one that will teach what you want. It’s easy to get people to bob their heads to something they like. Yet the Bible teaches us some uncomfortable truths.

As Joyce Meyers said, the biggest hypocrites in the church are Christians. I believe that. That is not to say that I am perfect. Not by a long shot. Going to a Christian private school until sixth grade, I learned a few things and none of this is what I was taught. That’s why people get turned off religion. Why would anyone want to be like these people?

For me, I work on my relationship with him. Not how the church says I need to stand against the tyranny of the liberal agenda. Many of that agenda is from the Bible. However, another verse comes to mind when I see how the church gets so twisted:

2 Timothy 4: 3-4 – “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suite their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say that their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
