PS4 System Update 7.0 Available for Download

Sony has rolled out its latest PS4 system update 7.0, it includes an improved Party function. You can now double up the number of participants to 16 from eight, making playing sessions more of a party. Pun intended. Also, Sony has improved the feature’s network connectivity and audio quality, which is always a good thing. Because, let’s face it, their connectivity quality leaves much to be desired.

They managed to increase accessibility with a new chat transcription feature. This converts all your Party chats to text, while text can be spoken by a robot on the PS4 Second Screen app. Because that was a thing.

Because this was a feature that needed to happen.

Another major feature of the PS4 system update 7.0 is Remote Play. It now functions on all smartphones and tablets running Android version 5.0 or higher, and not just Sony Xperia devices. I guess Sony realized that there aren’t many of those out there.

That means the feature is now on all major platforms, as iPhone and iPad devices got it earlier this year. Let’s face it, Apple always gets things first. But, since they have a singular operating system, development teams only have to work on one source. Not like the millions of variations of Android operating systems.

Remote Play has also been updated for iOS devices “so you can now display the controller at all times and lock the screen orientation,” said Sony in its blog post. Trust me, that is the most infuriating thing you can have on a mobile device is having a iOS device that has a mind of its own.

Furthermore, players can now use DualShock 4 wireless controllers over Bluetooth on Android, iOS and Mac via new updates in Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13 and macOS Catalina coming later this month, Sony noted. The update is arriving around the world this week, so you should see it on your console soon. Speaking of which, before I receive the PS4 system update 7.0, I better get the ones I’ve missed. Haven’t updated it in a while.
