For those of you expecting to see Kate Kane at SDCC this year, we have some bad news for you. Batwoman star announced that Ruby Rose cancels SDCC this year. The actor had to pull out at the last minute due to a busy filming schedule. Rose made a video to explain the situation, and to apologize to everyone who wanted to see her at the event this weekend. They are in their first season, so the pressure is on.
“I will, unfortunately, not be able to make it to Comic-Con this year, and it is devastating,” Rose said on her Instagram account. “Just know that we tried everything that we could humanly to be there.” Rose talked about how she had wanted to attend SDCC for a long time and praised the publicity Batwoman has gotten at the event.
“It wasn’t until really now that we realized there wasn’t any other way to finish this ambitious episode we are doing and create this amazing show that really really is special,” she continued. “And we want you to love it and be proud of it and be entertained, and to laugh and to cry and to be empowered. And that means that in this particular instance, I’ve got to work and bring Kate Kane and Batwoman to the screen and not Ruby to a panel.”
Rose ended the video by thanking her fans for the support she has received, while promising to make up for the missed event. She was originally scheduled to speak at two SDCC panels on Saturday. So, Ruby Rose cancels SDCC is a bummer, but they will plan better next year for sure.
Written by Caroline Dries and developed by Bertlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott, Elizabeth Anweis and Nicole Kang. The series will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 6 and air on Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT.
