As the first two Star Trek: Short Treks have been all fun and fluffy, the trailer for the latest upcoming short takes things into a darker more serious turn. Short Trek: Ask Not gives us our first Pike lead short since they started back in October. Until now, we have only had seen Pike in a short scene in both Q&A and The Trouble with Edward.
The entire premise of Short Treks: Ask Not appears to feature Captain Pike (Anson Mount) as a Starfleet prisoner. The synopsis on its YouTube page reads:
“When an attack on Starbase 28 leaves a surprise prisoner under Cadet Thira Sidhu’s (Amrit Kaur) watch, she is faced with making a decision that may threaten her standing in Starfleet.”
I already have a few theories on the episode, but I will save them for my review. The short is slated to air solely on CBS All Access on November 14, which is a week from today. You can sign up for a free 7-day free trial of the service, or grab a membership for $6.99 a month with ads or $9.99 a month with no ads. However, the more industrious of you can find a way without the fee.
Unlike last season, the Short Treks have been focusing on characters from the U.S.S. Enterprise that had a guest-starring role in season two. It seems that CBS is working hard to keep season three under wraps, but pushing the nostalgia factor as these shorts lead up to the series premiere of Picard. Reminding the fans of an Enterprise captain that hasn’t got enough airtime.
Many fans will attest that when Short Treks: Ask Not debuts, it will only strengthen their resolve for a Pike/Enterprise series on the streaming service. Not only will it feature the Enterprise, but with the great performances from Anson Mount and Ethan Peck, we could have an amazing series that will give us that nostalgia we always wanted.
