Spotify Updates for Personalized Artist Radio Stations

Spotify has released a major update. For Premium tier that overhauls its radio feature and redesigns its navigation and search on its mobile apps, the company announced in a blog post. The streaming service has streamlined its navigation. As well as redesigned its search page with a bigger emphasis on introducing users to new music by placing recommended genres at the top of the page.

The biggest change Spotify made today was to its artist radio feature. It will give users a personalized station.

Designed using the same algorithms that make Discover Weekly and Spotify’s other personalized playlists so great for any artist on song you choose. It’s essentially an endless playlist that’s tailored to you which can also be saved offline. Spotify’s new artist radio won’t require the thumbs up / thumbs down interaction. Now you can hit play and expect as good a listening session as you’d get from any personalized playlist.

The update slims Spotify’s total number of tabs (shown at the bottom of the app) down from five to three. “Browse,” which mainly highlighted curated playlists and showed music by genre, has seen its functionality folded into the search page. While “Radio” is now an option you can play after searching for an artist.

The overhaul follows Spotify’s recent update to song search. Now when you search for a song with a common name, Spotify will create a playlist based around the song instead of playing every version of “Hallelujah” in order. Thank God!
The update is rolling out globally to Premium subscribers on iOS and Android starting today.
