For many fans of the Star Wars saga, A New Hope always seems to be lacking in the lightsaber duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is important to state that I love that fight because it is about two aging Jedi of the old order facing off one final time. Making way for Luke to find his way to the force. However, the choreography does leave a lot to be desired. Well, an upcoming Star Wars fan film is hoping to improve it.
FXitinPost is a YouTube channel that is reimagining “scene 38” and has released a teaser trailer of the short scene. According to IO9, it is slated to be released sometime next year. Using the John Williams score to create the mood of the scene, it looks more fluid and will show the actors moving as they would with the force and not age.
The matching of live-action images and the computer-generation choreography puts more flare and some smooth movement that we didn’t see in the original film. It is important to keep in mind that George Lucas himself indicated that the prequels were designed to show off the Jedi. The Jedi were at the height of dominance and were to give fans that glimpse into their world.
While it is teased as a short clip, it is a bit too short for my tastes. In fact, I would not have been satisfied until I have seen the whole scene. It will be interesting to see how the final cut of the scene turns out. I am looking forward to it and will see how improved the scene will turn out. Sound off in the comments.
