The Rise of Skywalker Final Trailer Drops

Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012, Disney had promised us a new trilogy based on their popular Star Wars franchise. Disney has long struggled to have a popular science-fiction franchise under their belt, and they believed they found it with the force. Now, in 2019, we have the final chapter in that new trilogy Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker final trailer drops.

After original director Colin Trevorrow was unable to bring together the final chapters of the trilogy, Disney tapped J.J. Abrams to resolve the story. Originally slated for a May release (a throwback to the original trilogy release date), Abrams needed time to rework a script that would be worthy of the franchise and figure out how to work it without Carrie Fisher, who passed away shortly before the release of The Last Jedi.

The Rise of Skywalker will hit some heartstrings. Abrams said that Fisher’s image will be used in the movie, based on unused footage from the past films. Not to mention the final film that will feature any of the original characters. Let’s talk about that moment when C3PO mentions that he is saying goodbye to his friends. What?!

Disney and the Star Wars franchise haven’t had it easy. Fans feeling as if they have a right to dictate how the franchise should be run. Complaining about how The Force Awakens was a rehash of A New Hope. Then when Rian Johnson tries something completely different, the fans revolt. Filmmaking is still a director’s medium. Not a fan.

On a side note, we know Star Wars fans are full of it. If they truly wanted something new, franchises like Fast & Furious, Aliens, and James Bond wouldn’t still be made. Of course, there is some blame to be laid at the feet of Disney. Believing that Lucasfilm was a well-oiled machine like Marvel, the truth was laid to them after a lackluster prequel Solo was ill-advised. We want to see a universe expanding movie, which looks amazing with the announcement of The Mandalorian and the Obi-Wan series. Both taking place in a universe we haven’t fully experienced yet.

With The Rise of Skywalker being the last of the original series of films, it will be a sad moment. Knowing that there are new movies on the horizon, a small creative break will be good. Maybe we can have a good set of films ready creatively instead of saying we’re having three films and not a cohesive storyline. The one thing no one is talking about, how bad will you cry if 3PO dies? I’ll ball like a kid. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens on December 20, 2019.
