For some fans this has been a long time coming, but for current fans yesterday was a sad day. HBO officially announced that the seventh season, which is expected to be released next summer, would be the final season of the HBO flagship series.
The news comes on the heels of HBO renewing the series for a seventh season. “True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” said HBO’s president of programming Michael Lombardo.
“Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”
The series used to be the highest rated series on the network until it was eclipsed by Game of Thrones this past year. However, it is still managing to gain 4.5 million viewers for its season premiere, according to Deadline. It manages to average about 10.6 million viewers per episode.
Some avid fans, when it first aired, have indicated that the show has slipped in recent years, but it seems that there is enough of a dedicated following to make it still a hit for the network. Series stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard are all expected to return for the series final season. How many of you are sad or think it should’ve happened a while back.
