playstation classic

As Valentine’s Day is this week, The Lazy Geeks has a special gift recommendation. Back in September of last year, we reported that Sony was cashing in on the whole retro console idea. Nintendo had a lot of luck with their Classic NES and Classic Super NES consoles. So, Sony was trying to cash in with a classic version of the PlayStation One.

Unfortunately, they were dropping it around the holidays at $100 a pop. Yeah, we thought the same thing. Needless to say, the item didn’t sell out like hot cakes. Nintendo even dropped some more retro consoles onto the market for that holiday push, still at $70 each. Let’s just say, by the time New Year’s rolled around, there were a lot of PlayStation One classics around.

If you’ve kept your eye open, you may have noticed that they finally dropped down to $70 – which it should’ve been to begin with. If you still held out, due to principle or something, Walmart may have your ticket puncher.

Until Wednesday, February 13th, Walmart is offering the PlayStation One Classic for $39.99. Even comes with free two-day shipping or you can pick it up in the store. If you know someone would like that for the big Valentine’s Day thing this week, this may be the gift for you. Or, if you were doing that whole principle thing we talked about, you can grab it now. You can check out the link here.

If you don’t know what all games came with it, don’t worry. The system includes 20 pre-loaded games including Final Fantasy VII, Revelations: Persona, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, and much more. You can click here for the complete list of games available on the console.

While it was a non-starter at $100, it was a possible get at $70. Let’s be honest, that was where the price point should’ve been at. However, for $40, it is a steal. If you really think about it, that is the cost for a couple of those games alone. If this makes you feel better, you spend $40 for 20 games and got the hardware for free.
