Many people are still reeling from the Windows 10 October 2018 update. Most people didn’t actually receive the update until November. While the stench of that botched roll out was a culmination of the whole year for Microsoft that saw so many issues from their two major updates. It is time for another one. Windows 10 May 2019 Update is nearly upon us.
Microsoft released the update to its Release Preview ring testers on Monday. While it may give some people some comfort, this was the same process that still had those releases come through. Providing everything goes well, it should receive a broad rollout in May. Hence the name. Unfortunately, users will still be forced to accept this update whenever they choose to drop it on you.
Microsoft’s final build, 18362.30, is now available to download through Windows Update. This is the same update that will be launched on Windows Update to everyone next month. The Windows 10 May 2019 Update includes a new light theme for Windows 10, alongside Kaomoji support, a Windows sandbox feature, and the separation of Cortana and Windows search.
Microsoft did announce that they will be pulling back on constant updates, and work on giving everyone a smooth functionality. The company had be criticized for their focus on releasing new content in their updates, rather than fixing issues with those features in future updates. While Microsoft did acknowledge the issue and promise to be better, it remains to be seen if they were simply paying lip service.
For now, these updates were planned out in advance. So, it is unsure just how many more of these “feature” updates diminish and functionality updates begin. For now, we can cross our fingers about Windows 10 May 2019. Hopefully, it will be smoother and less issues. But, we aren’t holding our breath.
