Since the leak of the Department of Justice memo that stated there is not a “client list” of Jeffrey Epstein, Trump has tried many tactics to get past it. Unfortunately, no one will let it go. It isn’t even the left, a large swath of his own base felt betrayed that he isn’t doing what was supposed to be the easiest to do. He’s gone from scolding the press about “still” discussing it. Eventually moving on to his right-wing mouthpieces. Telling them to shut up about it. He even lashed out at his base. Told them he doesn’t need them anymore, if they believe it. Which is sort of true. In a last ditch effort, Trump ordered the release of Epstein grand jury transcripts.
But there is a catch.
There is always a catch when dealing with Trump. It is all a shell game. There will not be any information that would be the proverbial smoking gun. Trump ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the transcripts of the Jeffrey Epstein grand jury. The “Trump card” – forgive that regrettable pun – is that the judge can say no. This would give Trump an excuse. He could fawn over himself saying that he wanted to release it but the Democrat “deep state” won’t let me.
If you have never seen an episode of Law & Order or any political show, it’s simple. Prosecutors present information to a grand jury to only present charges. Juries are not investigators. They don’t see all the evidence. Grand juries are used to see if there is enough evidence to bring charges. Or, at the least, investigate further.
Epstein grand jury transcripts won’t have a smoking gun
They will only hear prosecution evidence that would bring charges against Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
“Grand juries in federal criminal cases hear witness testimony and review documents provided in response to subpoenas before they determine whether prosecutors have enough evidence to charge someone with a crime.” Politico reports. “All of that material is automatically considered grand jury material, and could be among the types of records released in the Epstein and Maxwell cases.”
“But other evidence in an investigative file falls into a gray area. If someone was interviewed by law enforcement on a voluntary basis, without a subpoena, for example, that might not be considered grand jury material.”
Some legal experts say it’s a nothing burger in regards to the transcript. Much of that information is confidential. And, it won’t contain anything that was obtained after the grand jury convened. Bondi could release files and investigative evidence that was obtained by the FBI. That does not require a judge’s approval, but requires Bondi’s.
That is the catch-22 for Trump.
Another example in “Epstein’s case, the high-profile searches of his palatial Manhattan home, private island, Palm Beach residence and other properties took place after he was indicted, meaning they may not have been conducted as part of the grand jury investigation, which comes before an indictment is handed down by the grand jury.”
Another would be when federal agents “searched Epstein’s Upper East Side mansion on the night of his arrest in 2019, the search was executed pursuant to “judicially-authorized warrants,” not grand jury warrants, prosecutors disclosed in court filings.”
The real question will remain
Will anyone buy it? Some have called me a pessimist. I believe I’m more of a pragmatist. Someone who sees the world without a dogmatic belief. Like when listening to Pod Save America and they discuss if “Trump really understands”. The speed my eyes roll allows me to see my own brain. They know what they’re doing.
Trump believes that if he can get back into the “deep state” is stopping me lane, he’ll be okay. However, I am not so sure. When breaking a cult like mindset, you need to have a hard truth become apparent. For many in the core MAGA crowd, it is bringing pedophiles to justice. Not just any pedophiles, but Democrat pedophiles. That’s all they want.
Many, like myself, were very surprised when he didn’t just do that.
I don’t know about you, but I was ready for it. What separates liberals from MAGA (in many instances) is that we don’t believe in “a dear leader”. That’s why not many of us buy presidential merch. However, MAGA is their identity.
Many liberals believe that anyone that has committed crimes against children – regardless of party – should be brought to justice. If Bill and Hilary have done it, let them share a cell together. Bill Gates? Lock him in a cell with only dial-up internet. The other side can’t seem to understand. Especially, when many MAGA Republicans are getting nailed for child porn.
I’ve seen Twitter spaces and Reddit forums that already know Trump is going to lie to them. Many of them are complaining about how stupid these MAGA “loons” are. However, remember that every Republican House member voted to not release the Epstein files. As well as, Trump will not recommend a special prosecutor investigation into the files.
