Lots of apps were having issues over the last weekend. Not just TikTok, but Google’s Gmail spam filter wasn’t working either. I started noticing that morning that my phone kept notifying me for car insurance emails. I don’t own a car. As well as various other emails. I started to wonder what was going on. It didn’t take long to find out that I wasn’t the only one experiencing this.
It only last a day, according to Google. For some reason, the spam filter that was keep all those irritating emails out of your main box stopped working. They noted the issue early Saturday. By the end of the day Google said on Twitter, that the issue “is now fully resolved for all users.”
Of all the email servers I’ve had, Gmail has always been the best one at keeping out junk mail. Is it perfect? No, but nothing is. Some sneaky mail gets through.
Gmail Spam Filter was a Slight Issue
On social media and DownDetector, some Gmail users also reported delays in receiving messages. This led to issues with two-factor authentication logins. After confirming the issue, Google noted the problem resulted in the “misclassification of emails in their inbox and additional spam warnings.” They included a banner that says, “Be careful with this message. Gmail hasn’t scanned this message for spam, unverified senders, or harmful software.”
Given what was going on with TikTok, explains why this didn’t get a lot of traction. Not to mention they resolved the issue quickly. For me, on the west coast, it only happened in the morning. Which means I forgot about it the rest of the day. Again, Gmail spam filter is better than anyone else. If you ever had Yahoo, you know what I’m talking about. That was a nightmare of an email app.
