It isn’t a surprise that YouTube would make a major announcement like the day after the Super Bowl. One of the biggest issues for cable TV subscribers is pricing. Not to mention paying high regulatory fees just to watch a few channels. Comcast is still losing TV subscribers after guaranteeing pricing for a couple of years. Once the cheaper option, YouTube TV is now one of the most expensive.
It seems that they’re struggling to keep customers on their platform. They teased a multi-tiered option back in December of 2025. Now they have delivered. Giving potential new users, and get some ex-customers, with more tailored channel line-up. Separating people between sports fans, entertainment, and family options.
The set up of the five tiers are a little more nuanced than in plans you see on services like Sling TV. Many of those options give you only sports. If you want anything else like national news or entertainment, you need to purchase the other plan.
YouTube TV Tiered Plans Go a Step Further Than Some

As you see above, you can still get the Sports Plan solely at $65/month. Next plan includes news, while the top plan gives you entertainment. Note the $78 price compared to that of the only plan at $83/month. Then comes the entertainment plan at $55/month. The next plan for $15 more includes News and Family.
The Sports Plan aims at die-hard fans who only want sports. It includes major broadcast networks (NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS) for local and national coverage. As well as dedicated sports channels like FS1, NBC Sports Network, and the full suite of ESPN channels. An added bonus: subscribers gain access to ESPN Unlimited at no extra cost. It is set to launch this fall. Local channels are included, and users can still add premium options like NFL Sunday Ticket.
The Entertainment Plan aims for those prioritizing movies, series, and lifestyle content. It features networks such as FX, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount Network, Food Network, and HGTV. The combined plans national news outlets like CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, and Bloomberg. The News + Entertainment + Family tier adds kid-friendly channels like Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, PBS Kids, and National Geographic.
You Can Change Plans at Any Time
According to Cord Cutters, much of their original benefits will remain intact on all plans. Features like unlimited cloud DVR storage, multiview for watching multiple streams simultaneously, up to six individual accounts per household, key plays highlights, and fantasy sports integration. Unlike other providers, cheaper options usually reduces premium features.
Now, users can switch plans anytime through the app’s plan management section. Downgrading to a cheaper tier isn’t without its issues. Credits will be applied for any unused portion of the prior plan. Existing add-ons (like 4K Plus) carry over seamlessly, though promotional pricing may be lost upon switching. DVR recordings adjust instantly. If a channel is dropped from a new plan, access to its recordings is lost. However, they can be recovered by switching back within 21 days.
Some have indicated that the new prices are promotional. If they are, is the prices shown the permanent or promotional. We will have to wait and see as the rollout of these plans will be gradual. The entertainment plan would be good for me but I don’t know why family has to be included. As if some single people don’t want to watch entertaining television and news. With my television taste, I will still end up with channels I couldn’t give two shits about.
