Back in 2024, there was a concept that I felt strongly about doing. Instead of doing a random weekly podcast episode, I wanted to do something historical. Something that would give context to many of our issues now. Like a weekly historical lesson that would lead us to the reality we’re all experiencing. I did that with Great American Sh*t Show. The first handful of episodes revolved around how the presidential election of Barry Goldwater led us to the election of Donald Trump.
There was a certain sense of pride I felt after releasing those episodes. However, it seemed like I lost the thread when I couldn’t decide what to do after that. While The Lazy Geeks and Gen X Loser could touch on many of those topics, I never felt those titles could handle a prolonged deep dive.
For season two, which wasn’t supposed to be this far out, I am going back to the well. Reword the concept into more “quality versus quantity”. There are some podcasts that didn’t drop episodes every week to regain those download numbers. However, if you put quality into it, people will come back when new episodes drop. That is what Great American Sh*t Show will be.
Great American Sh*t Show will go back into deep dives
Going into the long-gestating second season, the concept will go into Christian Nationalism. Not simply the concept of the ideology alone, but the fundamentalist concept behind evangelical Christianity. A concept that is genuinely American along with jazz and comic books.
The concept will return to what I originally intended: longer episodes with short seasons. Multi-episode seasons with longer gaps between them. The idea is to have episodes ready to release before I start dropping episodes. On the basis if I start a Patreon where you can binge all the episodes at once, while free versions will come out a few weeks later. As well as weekly.
The plan is to drop new episodes during the summer. A release date will be announced closer to launch date. As well as a more theatrical teaser. If you have not listened to the original concept “Modern GOP” from 2024, please check it out.
