Spider-Man has been one of my favorite super heroes since I was a kid. My first introduction to him was through a short-lived live action television series in the seventies. It was stupid and campy compared to what we have now. Since that was the first live-action incarnation of the character, the little kid in me was happy. Flash forward to 2026, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day dropped and the love for the character is still alive.
The trailer looks awesome. There are three slow-motion shots that are actual covers of his comics. One of which was the first issue of Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-man, when he fought the Tarantula – who he seems to battle in the film. Remembering what happened after No Way Home, Peter comes off as a tragic character. Seeing his friends move on without him. My favorite shot is the close-up on his eye inside the mask. Such a beautiful frame.
The film feels stuffed with members of his rogue gallery, but creative editing for their trailers will change what we think it is. This is the first Marvel movie that I have been excited for in a long time. With the addition of Bruce Banner and The Punisher, this should give the full story a bit more depth.
Online Speculation and Trolls Kill the Culture for Me
Don’t believe what you read on the internet. Many social media accounts make speculations (as if they’re fact) with no source. The reason? It gets engagement and allows these accounts to make money. What annoys me most is that many people believe them without a moment’s hesitation.
Recently, many sites posted rumors that Mark Ruffalo was fired from Marvel. They cited reason of his personal protests against Israel as the factor. Many people were wishing that into existence because they don’t like politics. When I say that, I mean they don’t like politics that’s against theirs. Yet, no mainstream publication reported anything either confirming or denying the claim. If it was true, they would be all over it. Ruffalo eventually spoke about it and denied the reports. Some reports suggested that he was being removed from the movie. The trailer speaks otherwise.
Sade Sink’s role is being kept quiet. The online “speculation” is all about her being Jean Grey. It won’t be because the X-Men are not in the universe. After the film’s release, the internet will be flooded with accounts annoyed that they didn’t do it. In one shot, there was a girl in a bus with brown and white hair. Now, people are claiming that if it isn’t Rogue, they ‘will riot’. Yes, because no one in the world would have hair like that. The internet has ruined surprises in films.
Brand New Day Speculation Craziness
There is immediate speculation that it could be Venom making its way into the MCU. Primarily because of the tease at the end of No Way Home. However, I believe that was a misdirect. In honor of full disclosure, I thought this could be Venom but the movie was going deeper than we seen in other films. After some thought, it could be more of a Man-Spider metamorphoses.

Man-Spider was a character introduced back in 1982 in the first four issues of Marvel Fanfare. Angel and Spider-Man crash in the Savage Land and are captured by the Savage Land Mutants. Peter is turned into Man-Spider. They revisted the character back in 2004, during Avengers Dissembled. More popularly remembers during the 90’s animated series. Venom would be the biggest misdirect. Some people associate it to the upcoming Secret Wars. In the comic version of the event, that is when the infamous black suit appears.
In the end, I hope it isn’t Venom. There is a lot of potential with some new and not commonly known characters. If they do, it would explain Banner’s involvement. In the original comics, Reed Richards helped Peter with the suit taking over him. We will all find out on July 31, 2026 when Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters.
