Novel Pulled Over AI Concerns

A self-published novel is pulled over concerns that it contains AI-generated content.

If you are a heavy user of YouTube, you probably see countless AI author videos. A portion of the videos are insinuating the use. Others are simply doing the law of averages. Others are actual cases of author’s being exposed. And we don’t need people… exposing themselves. Apparently, a self-published book is being pulled after allegations of AI being used in writing the book.

Author Mia Ballard is having her self-published book, which was picked up by Hachette Book Group, canceled in the United States. At the same time, they are pulling copies from the United Kingdom, which was already released. This came after reviewers on GoodReads and YouTube were speculating that it may have used AI in the novel. Now, there is no speculation the novel was entirely made with AI. At least, not yet.

While there is no confirmation about the use, Hachette made the announcement a day after receiving questions about the book from The New York Times. “In an email to the NYT, author Mia Ballard denied using AI to write her novel, instead blaming an acquaintance she’d hired to edit the original, self-published version of Shy Girl,Tech Crunch reported.

Novel Pulled Over AI Concerns

The problem with AI, aside from slowing down your operating system, is it’s use to cheat. YouTube is crowded with AI slop. Some podcasts are using voice generation to release episodes. Facebook is an AI slop haven. Now, Hollywood studios want to use AI to make movies cheaper for them and increase revenue for their shareholders.

According to the same report, “U.S. publishers rarely do extensive editing when they acquire titles that have already been published in other forms.” In the day of AI, this should no longer be the standard. This shouldn’t be a total surprise as the government wants to use AI to make laws.
