It has been a bit, hasn’t it? However, I did say we would be back. This week, we are back with the first sequel to Dirty Harry. A sequel that managed to try and walk back many of the controversial things about the original. It was difficult to not be excited about this sequel, especially after I saw it so many years ago.
This sequel tried to tame some of the more outright bold stances. John Millius, the original writer, had a more by-the-books take on Harry. At the behest of Clint Eastwood, some of the more conservative ideological takes were toned down for the film. While the original showed Harry as someone who hates the modern police department, this film has him defending it.
A group of vigilante cops are going around San Francisco taking out bad men of the city. They hide behind the guise of the badge, and take out people that skirt the system. Harry is designated as the defender of the flawed system he shouted about in the original film.
Shownotes for “Magnum Force”
This week and next week will conclude our first season of The Disgruntled Cinephile. Starting on October 8, the second season will be introduced. This wasn’t the original idea, but since October is the anniversary of The Lazy Geeks – why not? The 16th year of the blog and the 17th season of the original podcast.
Now that we are back on a self-hosted site, it was decided to make a bigger deal. The week of October 5th will see a new season of The Lazy Geeks podcast. As well as the debut of Great American Sh*t Show and The Gen-Xer Pod. October starts our Halloween movie month. I’ll explain more about that next week.
Enjoy The Disgruntled Cinephile: Magnum Force and see you next week.
