Ever since Sony made their all-digital, all the time claim, I feel down a PS hack YouTube rabbit hole. I blame my YouTube algorithm for that. Never even considered that. However, I suspect my listening devices heard me complaining about Sony. Then decided that I might be interest in this. Anyway, one of the biggest issues was firmware. In order to get it to work, you had to not update your PlayStation. This new PS5 hack makes it easier to play games that would play before mid-July.
If you are using a jailbroken PlayStation, you know you won’t be playing Grand Theft Auto 6 in November. There will be some people that try. Because there always is. Since it’s digital only and Sony catches wind, you will be banned. There is no way out of it.
As of Tuesday, the release of the new Relapse exploit, now works with any PS5 up to firmware version 13.6 (released in July). That means jailbreaking is now possible on any PS5 that was last updated before the mid-September release of firmware version 14.00.00. Which is the newest update you can use.
Latest PS5 Hack Changes Things Up
“The so-called Relapse exploit makes use of a long-known WebKit vulnerability in the PS5’s hard-to-access web browser”, according to Ars Technica. “Escalating from there to gain write access to the PS5 kernel and install an ELF loader to streamline the running of arbitrary code. The new method is also a lot more efficient than previous PS5 jailbreak exploits, which could hang the system for 50 minutes per attempt.”
Now, this isn’t for everyone. If you are into this, you are having a Christmas morning. There is a market for tracking down older PlayStation consoles with early firmware. To me, just seems like a lot of work to play emulators or whatever. Again, this isn’t for everyone.
