This wasn’t the original idea on how I was going to kick off the second season. I had chosen a completely different film. Was even half way through the script. Then scrolling through social media, the other day and saw this was available online for free. That is via Pluto TV and Tubi. I came across this cult classic film, Steven King’s Silver Bullet, from 1985. A movie I swore existed, but due to its lack of availability, I though was a fever dream.
The film isn’t just a werewolf movie. It starts off as a whodunit concept, but it let’s the audience in on it early. Taking place in a small town in 1976, there are many traits that exist now in 2026. Something is going around murdering towns folk and no one knows why. Or what.
The story follows a pair of siblings that stumble onto the path of the werewolf. Normally, in werewolf lore, the person that turns into the werewolf never remembers. He never remembers what he did the night before. However, in this particular story, he remembers. In some case, has reason for some of his particular victims.
Silver Bullet is an underrate flick
The film is gory in some sense. Many teens today might find it cheesy. It is definitely not for younger kids. I saw it on VHS (I think) where I was like 14 or 15. It became a favorite for me and my older brother. While some of the effects can be a little cheese, the transformation sequences hold up. Even more so without the work of CGI.
It is rated R, but 1985 version of rated R. This is a film that I will definitely look to grab. Add it to my collection. If you want to have a fun Halloween night, without the slasher flicks, there is a fun monster movie that I will watch again. Enjoy The Disgruntled Cinephile: Silver Bullet.
