Yes, we are aware that we never did a story on the Grand Theft Auto VI leaks. It wasn’t because I wasn’t interested. It was because I didn’t want to recap what people saw of the game leaks. Being a fan of true crime, I was more interested in the stuff outside the leak. Only a few sites are even discussing that. It appears that Take-Two isn’t sitting on its hands. They recently subpoena Microsoft and Discord over these GTA 6 leaks.

They filed a number of subpoenas in federal district court. Petitioning Microsoft and Discord for the release of records related to online accounts posting and sharing leaks of the game. “The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audiovisual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements,” reads a subpoena. It filed with the Southern District Court of New York on August 20, as reported by Kotaku.

“Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights…”

Now, this isn’t surprising. Take-Two definitely wants to get down to the bottom of it. Some online are suggesting that it was an insider done wrong. While I don’t put that out of the realm of possibility, I think this is someone with access.

GTA 6 leak is all over the place

The petition asks for user data needed to identify the individual, including “all internal Microsoft business records and investigative records associated with Microsoft’s internal investigation of the ‘cyberleek’ persona sufficient to identify the user(s), person(s) and/or entity/ies associated with that persona.”

Information is equally being demanded of Discord. Asking it to provide “all identifying information associated with all user accounts that are/were members communicating with the Discord server(s) listed below during the time period from June 1, 2026 to present; and for those accounts, provide any associated device/telemetry records where one or more of the tool/file artifacts below were present on the system.”

Not to mention they want their first born, mother’s maiden name, and the name of their first pet. It isn’t impossible to think that Microsoft won’t give up that information. Microsoft is known to help the cops when a warrant is issued. A court order will most likely do the trick as well.

It requests: “For each returned account, provide: the account ID, registration email, registration and last-login IP addresses, phone number, linked connections (Google/Xbox/etc.), any associated device identifiers (MachineGuid/MSA), and content related to Grand Theft Auto (‘GTA’), Rockstar or Cyberleek from their OneDrive account.”

The “Cyberleek” individual appears to be sharing confidential clips and materials related to GTA 6. All in exchange for promotion of a cryptocurrency.

Of course, this is leading to fakes full of malware

“A GTA gaming enthusiast highlighted on social media that a 113GB GTA VI ISO file is being shared online and asked their followers to “take one for the team” to confirm if it’s a valid build of the game,” Tom’s Hardware reports. “X user @GTAGolden_ did not mention where they saw the file, but it’s alleged that it was circulating on various Torrent sites. In a reply on X @Aidas29506493 said that they “did some reverse engineering” and confirmed that “it is fully fake and full of viruses.” Further analysis by the internet sleuths indicates that the huge ISO is mostly junk data alongside a 50KB virus.”

“The decompiled bytecode literally contains commands to whitelist the entire C:\ drive in Windows Defender (powershell Add-MpPreference -ExclusionPath %SystemDrive%\) and kill security software (taskkill -f),” Name said in one reply. They also added in another response, “It’s not 100 GB of actual code—it’s just a tiny 50 KB virus padded with 99.99% empty junk (literally endless zeroes).”

This was expected to happen. At least, anyone with a brain. The game is so sought after that some people will download anything. Just to give them a shot to play it first. To be completely honest, just wait for the damn game. There is no reason to risk your system for this just to be “first”.
