The public break-up between Elon Musk and Donald Trump has taken another step. After Trump threatened to have DOGE looking into Musk’s private contracts with the Trump Administration, Musk had remained quiet. Even after many in the MAGA community have started to call for Musk’s deportation, he had remained rather mum as the passage of that “big beautiful bill” made its way through both chambers of congress.
However, on the same day that Trump was about to sign it into law, Musk took to Twitter and announced that he is forming a new political party. The America Party as it will be called had already seen interest from people like Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind: (one) we are not even sure if this is a real thing. Cuban informed Musk that he works with the Center for Competitive Democracy. This access could help get his party on the ballot. While the Mucc said he would “like to meet to discuss”.
Now, I said there are a couple of things to keep in mind, but there is no need to get to those if number one turns out to be false. Has Musk filed the official paperwork to start an “America Party”? It isn’t clear. Musk may not even have to create an actual party. With his pulpit and wealthy, he could screw things up for Republicans in the upcoming midterms by simply telling sycophants to not vote.
Elon announces new political party
In recent FCC filings, there are a few that are filed under the new party name, but take that with a grain of salt. Whether they are actual filings remains to be seen, given that many of these filings are jokes. Some have affiliations with silly parties like the “American Meme Party,” “The Diddy Party” and “The DOGE Party.”
As people on social media like to say, “we are not a serious generation”.
Now, will this have an effect on actual races? A decade ago, I would’ve said no. However, in recent years, we have seen people like Kanye West run for president in an attempt to pull Democratic votes. However, with the Trump administration focusing on giving billionaires more wealth and power, this could only hurt Republicans.
At the same time, does Musk have the same power he had in 2024? That is obviously not the case. The debacle of the Wisconsin Supreme Court is what put him on the outs to begin with. Even Trump is taking credit for leaking the ketamine story to the press.
Many MAGA voters are torn between Musk and Trump. You have seen many right-wing pundits twist themselves to not cut off the hand that feeds them. In the end, Musk really wanted to be the cool kid at the party and like all of them, he was the last person to realize he was never cool. Just had a lot of money to entertain people. Even that wears off.
