Much of what I have been doing this year is rebranding. Shifting directions. Moving goalposts. But this time, it really has more to do with the blog than anything else. As you may have noticed, I have been struggling to find the direction of The Lazy Geeks blog for some time. We’ve been a “news” site that removes clickbait since we started this back in 2010. In 2026, no one wants to read stories that removes ragebait engagement. Honestly, I can’t really deal with that. This is where the true rebrand begins.

Originally, the blog was supposed to simply house the podcast. Give people a place to go. Now, you don’t even need a blog. A social media account is all you need. As someone who like to write, I thought writing news stories would be good to bring to the podcast. Yet, I don’t want to give up on the blog. What I think is missing is letting my voice speak. My true voice. Not just give an opinion on current news events.

Over the last couple of days since I made the announcement of the change, I wrote samples of what I’m moving toward. Less stories but longer ones. No, not everyone has hit like a story on the Xbox outage. However, when I did a follow-up on said story, no one engaged with it at all. It’s weird.

The Rebrand is a shift with focus

Maybe writing a blog is becoming a lost art. Unlike YouTube, chasing engagement is not something I want to do. With that being said, I want to divert much of my attention to evolving the shows. That is where YouTube comes in. Recently, we started releasing our audio content to YouTube. My focus may be diverted more toward launching that and altering the audio content to be more YouTube friendly.

So what does that mean for the blog?

I’ve made the decision to not throw it out. There will be an attempt to drop a post once a day. They may be news orientated or just something I have to say. It could be more nostalgia. It could be more opinion pieces about the state of our social media driven culture. Much of this change comes from telling my real thoughts with my real feelings.

This blog will be about geeky stuff. But it will be about things people geek out about. Some may deal with pop culture. Film and television. History, since I am a history geek. Some of the content may shift to how we all have a “Mandela Effect” about our own personal history. May even geek out over documentaries that I watch, which is the only reason I watch Netflix.

The blog will say what I want it to say

This will be the blog for my voice. At this point, I sort of given up trying to chase listeners or readers. If you want to follow me on this new adventure, cool. If not, that’s cool too. I’ll talk about the news that gives me thoughts. Video games that I started to play. Books that I cracked open recently. Movies that I’m viewing.

Don’t expect me to hate watch. One of the purposes of The Disgruntled Cinephile was to bring back balance. I can like something I don’t agree with. Watch a movie to have fun. There is nothing wrong with it. I may contradict myself – scratch that. I know I will. And that’s okay. I hope you stay and check out what is going on inside my brain.

Some may think a change after nearly 16 years is rough. I disagree. Since we never hit the heights of sites that have resorted to clickbait articles just to keep the light on, it gives me a better place to restart from. Thanks for reading, if you made it this far. See you on the flip.
