For those of you that have been a longtime member of The Lazy Geeks family, you know we have gone through a lot of changes. Yet, along the way, we always seem to end up back where we started. Following the proper definition of ‘insanity’, I still shake my head wondering why things don’t pan out. Like many things in my life, I tribute a lot of it to fear. Wondering why I can’t catch some ground like other podcasts that start and immediately have thousands of followers. Not just followers, but followers that are engaged.

Many times, I make a change that brings things closer to who I am now. After a couple of days, I start to wonder if I made a mistake somewhere along the line. Growth didn’t happen overnight. The last podcast episode dropped a couple of downloads. Over-analyze what I did differently in that episode than the ones before it.

Shake Things Up
How I feel sometimes when I overthink things.

I’ve spent the last few months trying to blend what I want this to be versus what it was. After doing a couple of episodes with Adam again, I started to think that maybe it is okay to change. Will it gain new listeners? Traffic on the blog increase? Does anyone seem to care? The answer to all these questions is – who the fuck knows. I’ve wanted to make a pivot with the brand. The name will stay the same, but many other things will not.

Time to Shake Things Up is a Good Thing

Starting August 1st, The Lazy Geeks is going to shift its direction. Utilizing the main podcast as a discussion of “two middle-aged men trying to navigate the world, complaining about anything and everything.” Essentially, moving away from news, unless it’s relevant to us or society. The blog will be more of a news/blog about nostalgic memories.

The Lazy Geeks and The Disgruntled Cinephile will remain the same. No structural changes that will cause it to be revamped. However, I have pulled the yet-unveiled podcast and will switch that up. Using the site as more nostalgia news and thoughts, I feel it will be good to dive that new podcast into that topic. Historical deep dives and cultural history that shaped my generation and early millennials. The title and trailer will be revealed in the coming weeks.

A hobby I’d like to get back into.

The Lazy Geeks podcast will go back to bi-weekly. This will allow me to focus on my other shows and the blog. I will be tweaking The Disgruntled Cinephile to allow me to post it as a YouTube video. I will be doing the same to the new shows I bring up going forward.

Another Major Shake-Up

For the meantime, I will be pausing our Patreon. That includes my Patreon only series. Since it has failed to gather any subscribers, I will move that mini-show from its Patreon exclusivity to a minisode released mid-week. That was a failure on my part. There was a belief that we could get some people to jump onboard. There should’ve been some lessons learned since we didn’t achieve our goal during the ‘Springtime Fundraiser’.

Miss the old way to build an organic presence.

Lastly, I reduced the amount of our social media presence. I dropped Twitter, as well as posting on The Lazy Geeks account on Instagram, Threads, and TikTok. Since my personal accounts has a decent amount of followers, I will be using those to promote the brand. Bluesky is a dead zone for the most part. However, posts will be made on that account, but I will not be active on there.

If you made it this far, awesome. For those of you that did, there isn’t really much change. No major podcast changes. The blog will tweak a little. In my mind, this will be as if we are starting the blog from scratch. You know, without actually starting from scratch. Hope you understand, but I need to be me. I will not let fear stop me from being me. Hope you will join us for the ride.
