Like many Star Trek fans, I am not okay. Same for X-Men fans. Hell, anyone that loved watching a living legend. Hearing the news of the passing of Patrick Stewart, the day seemed a little darker. I remember watching him in Dune when I was a kid. However, like many, I knew him as Captain Jean Luc-Picard. We will all commemorate the life and legacy of the actor in our own way. However, The Heroes & Icons Network, also known as H&I, will be running a five-hour marathon of his best Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes on Monday, November 2, 2026.

The evening begins at 8 p.m. with The Inner Light. Where Picard experiences an entire lifetime on a distant world and confronts questions of memory and identity. This is one of my all-time favorite episodes. Still brings me to tears when the episode closes on the flute playing.

At 9 p.m., The Measure of a Man. Puts Data at the center of a legal hearing that examines whether he is property or a sentient being entitled to rights.

The Drumhead follows at 10 p.m. Explores the dangers of unchecked authority when a retired admiral investigates possible sabotage and treason aboard the Enterprise. Many people quote Picard’s speech about using political power for witch hunts. An all-time classic

At 11 p.m., Darmok finds Picard forced to bridge a profound language barrier with an alien culture that communicates solely through metaphor. A highly quotable episode of the series.

The tribute concludes at midnight with Tapestry. Picard is given a chance to revisit a youthful decision that shaped the rest of his life. Another all-time favorite of mine and it’s a Q episode.

Patrick Stewart Tribute on H&L

Being a beginning drama student in 9th grade when The Next Generation aired, he was an idol. I would watch him command such presence. You could not take your eyes off of him. His speech pattern so recognizable. Adam and I joked that we could listen to him read the Yellow Pages all night.

No matter what role he played, you couldn’t help but be drawn in. Watching him in films and on TV, he never gave an indication that any role was beneath him. When I came into positions of management, I used to look to him for inspiration. A model that I would strive to achieve in a position of leadership.

Knowing that Avengers: Doomsday will be his final role, I imagine what that experience will be like. The excitement of seeing his character back on screen. Yet, the student in me weeps, knowing that I will no longer see another performance of this great actor. H&I is available online and over-the-air.

“Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again.”  Make it so.
