Of all the streaming services out there, Peacock is the one I forget most. A few years ago, they offered a year subscription for $20, which I signed up for. Have to admit that I barely watched at all that year. Usually it was to watch Law & Order and any spin-offs. Aside from that, it never had anything on their service that no one else had. Even though they just started to show a profit this year, Peacock responded to that with another price increase in the last four year.

The increases aren’t subtle. The standard ad-based plan is shooting up to $13 per month from $10, and the Premium Plus subscription will soon be $20 instead of $17. This also impacts the Peacock Select subscription, which is a bare-bones package that only includes select seasons of some NBC and Bravo shows. That’s going up to $9 per month from $8.

These changes went live yesterday for new and returning customers. Current subscribers have until September 17 before getting bashed by a price increase.

Peacock price increase – now – is not a smart move

With more and more people ditching streaming due to cost, it doesn’t stop companies from raising their prices. We can assume that if subscriptions don’t increase by the holidays, we could see some great deals for people to sign up then. However, that may not entice more people, especially since the younger demographic is turning to physical media.

With Sony playing around with digital only content, many people are turning to physical media. They are not subjected to licensing agreements. Personally, I am doing both. Creating my own “digital media” servers to watch any movie I want streaming or choose from my restarted physical media.

There isn’t an abundance of content available on NBC, unless you love reality television.
