Earlier this year, it was announced Babylon 5 was being released on YouTube. It was. For a hot minute. The first two episodes we released. Suddenly, it was taken down. There was no explanation as to why. Since it wasn’t available anywhere to stream, the argument was made that people should seek out physical copies. A few months after it was removed, it’s back. For real this time.

With a video on YouTube promoting the return, the series creator, J. Michael Straczynski, explains what is going to be going on with the official channel. Beginning this month, the restored uploads are expected to resume the earlier pattern of regular releases. Once again making the entire series available without subscription fees or geographic restrictions beyond standard platform guidelines. This move restores free access to a program widely regarded as a pioneering example of long-form serialized storytelling in television science fiction.

As August 2026 progresses, the official channel is anticipated to continue adding more full episodes. For a generation that first encountered Babylon 5 on traditional television or later home video, the YouTube return offers a convenient way to revisit the station’s corridors and council chambers. For newer fans, it provides an accessible gateway into one of science fiction’s most carefully constructed narrative universes.

Personally, I was never a real fan. Most of my knowledge came from my older brother, who watched the show religiously. I was more of a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fan. When I saw this, I knew my brother would’ve wanted to see this. So I posted this out of his memory, and the rabid fanbase that exists for that series.

So, here’s hoping that they don’t change their plans, like they did before. Let’s give the dedicated fandom something to be happy over.
