You think that discussing more tariffs would be a non-starter in an election year. Especially an election year that could put your party in the minority. However, President Donald Joanne Trump doesn’t think. According to Politico, the administration is considering another round of Trump tariffs on gaming consoles.

“One tariff approach under consideration would dramatically expand the number of tech products subject to the duties, hitting not just chips but potentially many of the goods made with them, such as laptops, gaming consoles or the servers that fill data centers,” reports Politico.

Now, it is important to remember he lost this battle before. The administration has already refunded tariffs collection after the Supreme Court said no dice. Now, the new Trump tariffs are not technically on gaming consoles directly. They are being levied against components that are heavily used in many electronics.

The problem with this “strategy”, if you can call it one, is symbolic. Trump doesn’t do slow because his base wants act now. Even if that action doesn’t really change anything. If he wanted to force companies to invest in US manufacturing, he would have to get companies to invest first. He figures if he forces them to pay more, they will do it.
