As we said when we started this series, all episodes will be record in advance. The downside, much of our conversations would not be timely. This is an episode that falls into that category. “GTA 6 is the New Normal” was recorded before Sony announced that they would no longer support physical discs. However, you could see it coming if you paid attention.

This leads into a conversation about physical media and the loss of true ownership. This brings on a discussion that is paying is ownership, then piracy isn’t stealing. The other topics within the podcast is how YouTube really sucks now and what makes it suck. Also, the humorous concept of “elite gamers” that believe playing FIFA, Madden, or Call of Duty is the cornerstones of gaming.

Sony already exhibits how digital ownership has major drawbacks. Hundreds of movies are removed from Sony accounts in Europe. It came down to non-renewed licensing agreements, which reinforced the concept that we own nothing.

“GTA 6 is the New Normal” is the hook for the concept. Video games now have never been completed when games ship to stores. With all modern consoles, internet connection is required. This allows companies to still work on the game completing or fixing for day one. This is why we have huge day one patches that take a long time before you can even play the game.

The argument about owning it digitally or physically is more nuanced than people on the internet believe. If you bought something digitally, you still own it. When you purchase an item, it is yours until it breaks. That is the difference, anything else is noise.
