Last week, Skydance closed their deal with Warner Bros, and I asked how long would it take for people to see the cost. Apparently, about a week. One of Warner Bros streaming companies, Discovery+, was just hit with a price increase. CordCutterNews is reporting that the streaming platform is getting hit with one.

“The ad-supported tier increased by $1 to $6.99 per month, while the ad-free tier rose by $2 to $11.99 per month,” CordCutterNews reports. “New subscribers encounter the higher rates immediately upon sign-up. Existing customers receive 30 days’ notice, with the revised charges appearing on billing statements on or after November 12, 2026.”

Okay, it is important to remember that I was joking about the price increases. Price increases like this don’t come overnight. Or within a week time period. This had probably been in motion since the whole acquisition was playing out in the media.

Discovery+ Price Increase Has Arrived

The reason I say this is due to the fact that you have to have the statements ready. Landing pages reflect the new prices. Graphic art designs. But Skydance was probably informed of the scheduled price increases, and found no reason to stop them. They have a lot of debt to pay down. However, this could be the beginning of many.

I have a strong suspicion that Skydance will drop some major offers during the holiday season. Get as many new subscribers onboard and locked in. Then start raising prices at the beginning of the new year.

Now, I won’t be joining Discovery+ anytime soon. As I am not a real fan of reality TV, and my passion for true crime has died out. If you have those passions, I would wait to subscribe. See what they offer around Black Friday into Christmas. There could be some good deal to lock in subscribers, which is good for shareholders. Then increase prices later, which is good for them.
