There will be one streaming service to rule them all. It was revealed on Tuesday that the two streaming services will merge. Actually, it was more confirmed. We heard rumors about them merging the two earlier this year. Not that any of this should come as a surprise. HBO Max & Paramount Plus becoming one would make economic sense. For Sundance, that is. Not for everyone else.
Sundance CEO David Ellison said, “will unify into a single service over time. That was about all he said. In addition to giving the company “a little over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers.”
Now, between the two streaming services, Paramount Plus will benefit quite well from the merging of the content. Hope they will work on improving their UI. The Paramount Plus user interface is horrific and always been. It would be better to just import the content into HBO Max, which is better.
HBO Max & Paramount Plus: One Service to Rule Them All
Of course, there was no word on when this will happen. How long it will take. Most importantly for consumers, how much this will cost. They are carrying a huge debt to make this happen. How much of that debt will be thrusted onto their customer base.
There has been a protest against Paramount Plus for some time. The most recent was the sale to the Ellisons. As sticking to that promise, I have acquired my content for Paramount from other sources. The place I was living at had HBO on their cable subscription. However, they recently got rid of it to bring down their bill.
I have managed to see my shows like Lanterns, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. I managed to watch South Park on cable, while Star Trek related content has been found on the ‘high seas’.
