There has been some buzz surrounding warning stickers being placed on PlayStation 5 by Sony. Now,it is important to keep in mind that this could be fake. Even Kotaku is being cautious about saying this is real. They even acknowledge what the internet would say, “anyone could very easily print off a fake sticker and slap it on a PS5 box.” However, there is additional proof, according to the site, claiming they found a German Amazon listing showing the same sticker.

The “Important Notice” sticker was spotted by Push Square, user Behind the Games on X posted a picture (you can see below). The sticker reportedly states alerts buyers that Sony is shifting toward digital only content in January 2028.

It appears on the box of a 1TB standard disc-drive edition of the PlayStation 5. What makes this funny is that Kotaku is trying their hardest to stress this could be fake. They do note that a similar sticker can be made out from the German Amazon site.

Sony Placing Sticker on PS5s Shouldn’t Be Surprising

Sony made the official announcement, so it isn’t a surprise to anyone keeping up with gaming news. I mean, we did three things about it. We had a podcast episodes, the original news, and an opinion piece about it. That’s called milking it for what it’s worth.

However, this most likely comes from the EU’s rules about letting customers know when something will become obsolete. So, it is more like following the rules, than covering their own asses, as Kotaku seems to believe.

It is likely to assume that newer boxes will starting filtering their way into the United States soon. As mass producing one particular box in the future would be more cost effective. This seems less likely as news but just of beating a dead horse. Then again, we are reporting it too.
