The 2005 revival of Doctor Who has moved around from home to home over the last few years. After the Jodie Whitaker run, Disney partnered with the BBC to bring it to Disney Plus. However, after two seasons, Disney dipped out of its partnership and left the show in limbo. As for the pre-Disney slot, it left HBO Max and has been unavailable since. That is until now. AMC+ has announced that all the pre-Disney Doctor Who is coming to their service.
According to CordCutter, all “13 seasons and 176 episodes of the revived “Doctor Who” series will begin streaming June 11. The collection includes special episodes from the show’s 2005 revival through the end of Jodie Whittaker’s run as the Doctor.” This even includes the fiftieth anniversary of the series, but nothing that was made for Disney. This includes the sixtieth anniversary episodes and Ncuti Gatwa run.
2005 Revival of Doctor Who Finds New Home
This is good news for Doctor Who fans that have been waiting for months. Personally, I knew it was going to find a new home but it had to find the right partner. AMC has enough existing customers that it would be advantageous for the modern series. Especially, given reports that the series will be returning at some point.
Currently, you can subscribe to the AMC+ service for $30 for a year (special deal) or $11/month without commercials. $8 a month with ads. Which is cheaper than many of the other apps. Even Spectrum customers can get complimentary access to the app if you signed up for a certain plan.
Needless to say, with rights jumping from app to app, it does make more sense to own physical media. I know these companies don’t like to hear this, but it does push people to pirate and create their own libraries.
